| My research examines the impacts of watershed urbanization on caddisfly (Trichoptera) dispersal and how these impacts may affect caddisfly assemblage structure in headwater streams. My previous work has shown that decreased diversity in headwater streams following watershed urbanization results largely from the loss of headwater specialists that are absent from larger, downstream reaches. My current work will determine if the loss of headwater caddisfly taxa is caused by constraints on adult flight that limit dispersal. In addition, I will examine how dispersal and life history characteristics contribute to patterns of local extirpation and assemblage structure of caddisflies in urban headwaters.
